JAMB Issues Stern Warning: Parents Face Arrest, Kids Disqualified For Misconduct In 2024 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a directive for security agencies to apprehend any parent found in the vicinity of Computer-Based Test (CBT) center facilities during the 2024 UTME exercise. This directive, relayed by JAMB’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, was emphasized during the final briefing of CBT center owners.

Benjamin clarified that this directive was prompted by the intrusive behavior displayed by some parents during previous JAMB exercises. Quoting JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, Benjamin stated that any parent found violating this directive would not only face arrest but also risk disqualification of their ward from the examination.

According to Oloyede, this measure is essential due to the discovery that many of these interfering parents are involved in facilitating examination malpractices, while others have disrupted JAMB examinations in the past. He highlighted instances where individuals posing as parents have infiltrated centers to engage in various forms of malpractice.

In response to this challenge, the Board has instructed security personnel to collaborate with the centers to apprehend any parent attempting to interfere, emphasizing that according to national education policy, candidates for the examination must be at least 17 years old.

Oloyede underscored that these parents are attempting to bypass the educational process by escorting their underage children to the examination venue, often with the intention of compromising examination officials. He emphasized the need for sanctions against such individuals, asserting that they are essentially “smuggling” underage children into the examination.

Additionally, Oloyede urged CBT center owners to view their role as a national duty rather than solely a profit-driven venture. He called upon them to identify and expose any unethical practices among their ranks.
