Joe Igbokwe Responds To Sowore’s Lagos Protest Announcement

Joe Igbokwe recently responded to Omoyele Sowore’s announcement of a protest in Lagos. Sowore, a 2023 presidential candidate and activist, revealed via Facebook that the protest will be held from August 1 to 10 at the Lagos State Secretariat in Alausa, starting at 7 a.m. He also mentioned that in Edo State, the protest will gather at the Museum Ground, King’s Square, Ring Road, Benin City…….. Igbokwe criticized the Lagos venue, arguing that it would be ineffective and noting that the 2020 EndSARS protests had severely impacted the city. He remarked, “To Alausa? Oga e no go work again ooooo. Lagosians no go smile this time around ooooooo. #ENDSARS nearly destroyed Lagos.”

In a related development, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has warned residents against vandalizing government property during the planned nationwide protests on August 1. While acknowledging citizens’ right to protest, Makinde emphasized that the facilities in question were funded by public money and should be preserved. He urged protesters to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid destruction of public infrastructure. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Ibadan Cultural Week, Makinde reiterated that any damage would result in funds being redirected from important projects to repair the damage.
