Jonathan Honoured With Prestigious Chieftaincy Title In Bauchi

The Bauchi Emirate has honoured former President Goodluck Jonathan with the traditional title of Jigon Bauchi, in recognition of his contributions to democracy, peace and national unity.

The Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Adamu, conferred the title on Jonathan on Tuesday during a ceremony held at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi metropolis.

The monarch described the former president as a good leader and praised his commitment to promoting peace, democratic values and national cohesion.

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed led a delegation of government officials and other dignitaries to the palace for the occasion.

Mohammed commended the Bauchi Emirate for honouring Jonathan, saying the conferment was a recognition of the former president’s contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and national unity.

“The conferment of this title reflects the recognition of Dr Goodluck Jonathan’s contributions to the development of democracy and national unity in Nigeria,” the governor said.

Mohammed further noted that Jonathan’s leadership and service to the country remained deserving of recognition and commendation.

Responding to the honour, Jonathan expressed gratitude to the Bauchi Emir, the emirate and the people of the state for the recognition.

“I am deeply honoured by this recognition and I appreciate His Royal Highness, the Bauchi Emirate and the people of Bauchi State for this honour,” Jonathan said.

The former president also pledged to respect the laws, traditions and values of the Bauchi Emirate Council while upholding the dignity attached to the traditional title.

“I will continue to respect the traditions and values of the Bauchi Emirate and ensure that the dignity attached to this title is upheld,” he added.
