Joshua Turned Down Huge Payday In America To Pursue Fury Fight In Britain

British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua turned down offers worth several million dollars more in order to pursue a potential blockbuster fight against fellow British heavyweight Tyson Fury in the United Kingdom.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the highly anticipated Joshua-Fury showdown has remained one of boxing’s most discussed potential fights, although negotiations and differences over career plans have repeatedly prevented the bout from taking place.

Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn disclosed that Joshua could have earned considerably more if the fight had been staged in the United States. However, he said the boxer and his team chose to prioritise hosting the highly anticipated contest in Britain.

Hearn also addressed the involvement of UFC president Dana White in discussions surrounding the proposed fight, insisting that his team had already agreed to contractual terms and wanted those agreements respected.

According to the promoter, Joshua could have accepted a significantly larger financial package to stage the fight in America, but the team remained committed to bringing the contest to British fans.

Hearn said the strong support the proposed fight has received from fans on social media further strengthened their resolve to maintain their position and pursue the bout in Britain.

He stressed that the decision was not intended to prevent the Joshua-Fury fight from happening, but rather to ensure that the agreed principles surrounding the potential contest were respected.
