Bashir’s family had arrived in Kaduna earlier that day for a holiday with the wife’s relatives in a suburb of the city. Bashir, a correspondent for Nigeria Telegraph, informed his colleagues about the incident in a statement released on August 9.
In his message posted to the Kogi Correspondents’ Chapel WhatsApp group, Bashir pleaded for prayers, stating, “My two daughters and their mother, along with eight others, were kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Kaduna during their holiday. Please keep us in your prayers.”
He also mentioned that he had contacted both the police and the Department of State Services, who assured him that efforts were underway to rescue the victims and apprehend the kidnappers.
