Julius Agwu Breaks Down Emotionally: My Friends Deserted Me
Veteran comedian Julius Agwu broke down in tears during a recent appearance on the Beer Parlour Talkshow as he reflected on the difficult period that followed his battle with a brain tumour and the challenges he faced during his recovery.
Agwu, who rose to prominence in Nigeria’s entertainment industry during the mid-2000s with popular comedy performances and music releases including “Handwork,” experienced a major setback in May 2015 after suffering a seizure that was later linked to a brain tumour.
The comedian underwent major brain surgery in May 2016 and survived the procedure. However, he said the medical ordeal had a significant impact on his memory and changed several aspects of his life.
While discussing the experience on the programme, Agwu became emotional as he recalled what he described as painful experiences involving some people close to him during his recovery.
The pioneer of what he describes as “musicomedy” alleged that some of his friends deserted him, stopped communicating with him and failed to stand by him during his difficult period. He also alleged that his former manager took money belonging to him.
Agwu, who became visibly emotional while speaking, expressed disappointment over the treatment he said he received from people he had considered friends and associates.
“Musicomedy, I formed it. That’s to tell you how my brain works. That is why…” he said before breaking down in tears.
He continued, “Anyone who has a hand in what happened to me, that person… I will be wondering what kind of life I am living. My friends deserted me. It is well!”
Rather than publicly pursue those he believes contributed to his difficulties, Agwu said he had chosen to leave the matter in God’s hands and prayed for divine intervention concerning those he holds responsible for his experiences.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Agwu’s emotional disclosure has drawn attention to the personal struggles he faced away from the spotlight following his health crisis and the impact the period had on his career and relationships.
