Just Be Yourself, Short Man!’ — Seun Kuti Fires Back At Wizkid Over Fela Comparison

Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has responded to Wizkid following the pop star’s Instagram outburst in which he insulted Seun over comparisons to the late Afrobeat icon, Fela Kuti.

The response came after Wizkid shared a series of Instagram posts claiming he was bigger than Fela and directing personal attacks at Seun.

Reacting to the controversy, Seun addressed the ongoing feud while acknowledging the attention it has generated, but he maintained his position on preserving and respecting his father’s legacy.

In a post, Seun wrote: “Una oga don come out. Ehn hen. Tmr we finish. Day 7. Shebi una say e no go answer? Dem don fall una hand o. Just be yourself short man. You are also great.”

The disagreement began when Seun publicly rejected comparisons between Wizkid and Fela, arguing that describing Wizkid as “bigger” or “more influential” undermines Fela’s legacy. He stressed that Fela’s significance extends far beyond music, rooted in his role as a political and cultural revolutionary.

Seun also criticised Wizkid’s fans for frequently invoking Fela’s name in online debates, describing the behaviour as disrespectful. He added that equating modern commercial success with Fela’s historical impact reflects a poor understanding of history and the depth of Fela’s influence.
