Encouraging a focus on uplifting the younger generation, Mrs. Tinubu advised parents to instill hope in their children. She emphasized steering clear of discussions about poverty in the presence of children, asserting that Nigeria is not a poor nation. Instead, she urged those with wealth to extend their support to the less privileged, fostering prosperity for all.
In her words, “Whoever we are, we should stop talking about poverty in front of our children. We are not a poor nation; the wealthy ones should also take care of the poor ones and make them wealthy; that is all it takes.” Mrs. Tinubu expressed concern about the negative impact of framing poverty in discussions, especially on the younger generation, and called for a shift toward inspiring hope and showcasing positive possibilities.
Addressing the future, she declared, “We are entering a glorious year, and those who believe that it is going to be glorious will enjoy it.” During the Christmas party for the children, Mrs. Tinubu took the opportunity to share a Bible story with them, underlining the importance of moral values. She urged parents to actively engage in teaching their children good morals, laying the foundation for them to grow into responsible and accomplished adults.
In reshaping the Christmas celebration at the State House, the first lady aimed to alter the narrative and bring a renewed focus on the essence of the holiday, emphasizing the importance of imparting positive values to the younger generation.
