Following the signing ceremony, Comrade Aliyu Umar Jungle, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, shared insights into the implications of the memorandum. He emphasized that this development sets the stage for civil servants and their families to access the anticipated health benefits once the scheme becomes operational.

Under the terms of the MoU, civil servants in Sokoto State will contribute 4 percent of their salaries to facilitate the commencement of the health scheme. In addition, the government will inject one hundred million naira to support the initiative. Comrade Jungle outlined the specific contribution amounts, noting that civil servants in grades 1 to 6 will contribute 1000 naira monthly, while those in grades 7 and above will contribute 1500 naira.

The labour leader expressed a commitment to closely monitoring the implementation of the scheme, stating that visits to clinics and hospitals will be conducted to ensure transparency and fairness in the process. He stressed that the welfare of workers, who are key stakeholders in the scheme, would be prioritized, and any shortcomings from health personnel would not be tolerated.

The Contributory Health Scheme is slated to commence in January 2024, pending the completion of necessary arrangements and documentation by the state government to ensure a smooth and trouble-free launch. The development marks a crucial milestone in improving healthcare access for the state’s workforce and their families.
