President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has cancelled his planned trips to South Africa and Angola, directing Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegations to both international summits, senior State House officials confirmed on Friday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to the officials, the decision was concluded on Friday afternoon, with Shettima already en route to South Africa to represent the President at the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
“It was a last-minute arrangement. They only finalised it this afternoon,” one of the sources said.
Reports indicate that after the G20 engagement, the Vice President will continue to Angola for the AU–EU Summit, also on behalf of the President.
“The trip had previously been postponed. But given the current situation, it is better for him to stay in the country to address the issues,” another official explained.
Both officials requested anonymity because they were not authorised to speak publicly.
Tinubu’s decision follows a series of security incidents across the country, including the abduction of schoolgirls in Maga, Kebbi State; an attack and mass abduction at a church in Eruku, Kwara State; and the Friday-morning kidnapping of Catholic schoolchildren in Minna, Niger State.
These events have heightened public concern and renewed demands for stronger security interventions.
According to The PUNCH, sources said the President will remain in Abuja to coordinate national security responses and receive continuous updates from service chiefs.
Tinubu has instructed security agencies to intensify search-and-rescue operations and enhance preventive deployments in vulnerable areas.
A formal statement from the Presidency is expected shortly.
