Earlier today, the demise of Governor Akeredolu was confirmed, bringing an end to his prolonged battle with blood cancer and prostate cancer. The 67-year-old politician had returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical leave in Germany. Recently, he took another leave, complying with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to transfer power to his deputy, Aiyedatiwa, who had been acting as Governor during his absence.
Amidst these events, at 4 pm today, the Cocoa Conference Hall in Akure witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa as the new Governor.
However, in a surprising turn of events, shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, Dare Aragbaiye, the Special Adviser on Union Matters to the late Governor Akeredolu, tendered his resignation. Aragbaiye expressed his loyalty to Governor Akeredolu even in death, as revealed in his resignation letter.
