The vessel in question, MT TURA II (IMO number: 6620462), is registered under the Nigerian company HOLAB MARITIME SERVICES LIMITED (Registration Number RC813311). It was en route to Cameroon when it was intercepted at an offshore location (Latitude: 5.8197194477543235°, Longitude: 4.789002723991871°), with both the captain and crew members on board.
Preliminary investigations conducted by bushradiogist gathered indicate that the cargo of crude oil was unlawfully sourced from an offshore well jacket located in Ondo State, Nigeria. Notably, no valid documentation was found for either the vessel or the crude oil cargo at the time of the arrest.
Further scrutiny of the vessel’s activities at the NNPC Ltd. Command and Control Centre revealed that it had been operating stealthily for the past twelve (12) years. The last reported location of the vessel was Tin Can Port in July 2011. CONTINUE READING
Subsequently, the authorities were promptly informed of this arrest, and the findings of the investigations have led to the decision to destroy the vessel. This action serves as a robust warning and deterrent to all individuals involved in such illicit activities, urging them to cease and desist.
The destruction of vessels involved in the transportation of stolen crude oil holds immense significance as a strong deterrent.
