Gun-wielding militants have initiated a fresh assault on the Dogon-noma community situated in the Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Reports indicate that the militants launched their attack during the early hours of Saturday, March 16, firing indiscriminately to spread fear among the residents.

Former chairman of the local government, Cafra Caino, confirmed the attack during a conversation with The Punch, stating that the assailants, in significant numbers, descended upon the village around 5:45 am on Saturday, utilizing both bikes and vehicles for their operation.

Caino highlighted that the community has been enduring a series of attacks from militants recently, with this incident being the latest in a string of assaults. He mentioned a previous attack in 2019 where 74 individuals lost their lives and stressed that the community has been on edge due to the ongoing threats.

The assault occurred just days after another incident in the Banono Angwaku community within the same local government area, where one person was killed, and eight women were abducted.

In a separate development, the perpetrators behind the abduction of over 287 schoolchildren in Kuriga village, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have reportedly demanded a ransom of N1 billion from the families of the victims. Gunmen raided the school shortly after a morning assembly session, seizing both pupils and staff members.

Aminu Kuriga, a youth leader from the community, disclosed to Daily Trust that the bandits contacted the families to communicate their demand, stipulating a 20-day timeframe for the ransom to be paid.
