In a statement issued in Kaduna, Council Chairman Comrade Asmau Yawo Halilu and Secretary Comrade Gambo Santos Sanga described Zango’s death as a profound loss to the Council. They acknowledged his significant contributions to the growth and development of the NUJ at both state and national levels.
The statement highlighted Zango’s commitment to truth, justice, and fair play, noting that he was a respected and humble journalist. They prayed for his soul to rest in peace and for his family to find strength during this difficult time.
The NUJ urged media practitioners in Kaduna State to support each other and close ranks, emphasizing that Zango’s humility and respect for others would be deeply missed.
Comrade Jacob Haruna Zango, 56, passed away last Thursday in Kafanchan, the administrative headquarters of Jema’a LGA in Kaduna State, after a brief illness. At the time of his death, he was a News Editor at the Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC) Kafanchan Sub-Station. He was also a former two-term Assistant Secretary of the NUJ Kaduna State Council.
Zango is survived by his wife and four children. He will be laid to rest on August 23, 2024, in his hometown of Uruhobo (Abuyab) in Zangon-Kataf LGA, following a Christian wake-keeping service at Triumphant Baptist Church, Maraban-Rido in Chikun LGA.
