Speaking at the 2nd Externs General Conference and the 10th Anniversary of the program in Abuja on Saturday, Oboagwina criticized the ongoing corruption within the legal profession and emphasized that the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee is responsible for sanctioning such misconduct.

“If you encounter any corrupt behavior, do not stay silent,” Oboagwina advised. “Report these individuals promptly to ensure they are held accountable. This will serve as a deterrent to others who might be tempted to engage in unethical practices.”

He encouraged aspiring lawyers to commit to hard work and dedication, viewing their future roles in the legal profession as a means to improve society. “If lawyers remain steadfast in their integrity and challenge corruption, our society will benefit greatly.”

Clement Chukwuemeka, the 2nd Vice President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), also addressed the conference, urging lawyers to hold the government accountable and advocate for social justice. He emphasized that the true role of lawyers is to seek justice rather than merely profit, particularly for those who cannot advocate for themselves.

“While influential individuals might escape justice in corruption cases, the less fortunate are often unjustly punished due to their lack of representation,” Chukwuemeka noted.
