The Kaduna State House of Assembly has initiated a committee to scrutinize the financial transactions, borrowing activities, grants utilization, and execution of projects during the tenure of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Naija News reports that El-Rufai, who previously served as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, governed Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023.
There appears to be tension between El-Rufai and his successor, Governor Uba Sani, regarding the disclosure of the significant debt burden currently borne by the state.
During the Tuesday plenary session at the Lord Lugard Legislative Complex in Kaduna, the Kaduna State Assembly established the investigative committee.
Among those to be investigated by the legislative panel is Jimi Lawal, a close associate of El-Rufai and a senior advisor on investment.
The committee, appointed by the Assembly, is tasked with delving into financial transactions, loan acquisitions, grants utilization, and the implementation of various projects spanning the period from 2015 to 2023.
The panel has been given the authority to summon prominent figures, including former speakers of the 8th and 9th Assembly, finance commissioners, former managing directors of Kaduna markets, as well as commissioners of budget and planning, among others.
