Kaduna State Lifts 24-Hour Curfew Imposed After Recent Protest

Initially imposed to curb the escalating violence, the curfew was in effect as the protests continued into their fifth day, with thousands of youths demanding an end to perceived bad governance. Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, had previously defended the curfew as a necessary measure to maintain order.

On the seventh day of the protests, Governor Uba Sani and the State Security Council decided to ease the curfew from 24 hours to a 6 pm to 8 am restriction. However, after a comprehensive review of the security situation in Kaduna, Zaria, and surrounding areas, the council has now fully removed the curfew.

In a statement on Tuesday, Aruwan confirmed the immediate removal of the curfew, allowing citizens to move freely and engage in lawful activities. He stressed that while the curfew is lifted, any processions or gatherings must be coordinated with relevant authorities to prevent disorder. The Security Council will continue monitoring for threats and enforcing the law to ensure public safety.

Governor Sani praised the efforts of security agencies, religious and traditional leaders, and other stakeholders in managing the situation. He reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing dialogue and collaboration to foster peace and development in Kaduna State.
