Kaduna Violence Escalates: Armed Militia Strike Military Base, Casualties Feared

Security expert Zagazola Makama reported the incident on Thursday morning, revealing that intelligence sources indicated three attackers armed with sophisticated weapons opened fire on the soldiers. The attack led to the death of Corporal James (surname withheld) and injuries to Private Ibrahim.

The attackers fled the scene after seizing two AK-47 rifles from the soldiers. The injured were swiftly transported to the 44 Army Reference Hospital, where Corporal James was declared dead, while Private Bazalla is receiving medical treatment.

Following the ambush, a coordinated operation involving the military, police, and local vigilante groups was initiated, tracing the attackers to Degel2 in Kaduna. The assailants abandoned a silver Toyota Corolla and, during their escape, hijacked a white Toyota Venza from a civilian identified as Abdullahi Mohammed, a resident of Badarawa, Kaduna.

Law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing the suspects and attempting to recover the stolen vehicle.

In a related development, just a week prior, gunmen attacked the Awgu Divisional Police Headquarters in Enugu State, killing Police Constable Akpa Emmanuel and looting weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and two riot guns. The assault, which occurred on March 24, 2025, has left Awgu town tense, prompting heightened security measures under the directive of the new Commissioner of Police in Enugu, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa.
