Kalu’s Call For Suspension Of Agitations Receives Support From Ohanaeze Youths In SEDC Act

The group has urged agitating factions in the region to cease their actions.

In a statement to journalists on Thursday, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, National President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, praised President Bola Tinubu as a historic figure and confirmed that the signing of the bill had validated their support for Kalu.

Okwu highlighted that the Southeast Development Commission will significantly boost development in the Southeast region, noting that it represents a crucial advancement since the end of the civil war. He emphasized that the region has long suffered from deteriorated infrastructure, and this Commission will help remedy that.

Okwu recalled the group’s support for Kalu during his election as Deputy Speaker, stating that their faith in him has been vindicated by the bill’s passage. He described the Southeast Development Commission Act as one of the most significant achievements for the Igbo people since the civil war ended 54 years ago.

The group urged their fellow Igbo people to heed Kalu’s call for an end to all forms of agitation, following his press conference where he requested an end to regional protests. Okwu stressed that with the federal government taking substantial steps to address regional marginalization, there is no longer a need for further agitation.

“We reiterate our appeal that no Igbo person should engage in the planned nationwide protest. We support Kalu’s call for the cessation of all protests and agitations,” Okwu stated, emphasizing that the new bill will address critical issues such as the reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged during the civil war. He encouraged all Ndigbo to support Kalu, seeing him as a promising advocate for their needs under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
