In an interview with Punch, APC Kano Public Relations Officer, Ahmed S. Aruwa, labeled Kwankwaso as a political liability. The controversy sparked after APC Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, controversially claimed that the NNPP was “dead” and that the APC was ready to “welcome Kwankwaso back home.”

Aruwa, however, dismissed these claims, stating that Kwankwaso’s return would not be beneficial to either the APC or Kano State. He emphasized, “Kwankwaso has a history of destroying parties. He wrecked the PDP, leaving it in crisis, and is now doing the same to the NNPP. We don’t need him in APC.”

Aruwa further alleged that Kwankwaso’s interest in rejoining the APC was purely a strategic move to position himself for the 2031 presidential race after President Bola Tinubu’s second term. He warned, “We know his game. He wants to hijack the party structure through the back door. From 2019 to 2023, we worked hard to build APC while he mocked and insulted us. We won’t let him ruin the party.”

The APC spokesperson concluded that if Kwankwaso truly sought to return, he would first need to reconcile with Ganduje before any discussions could take place. “If he really wants to come back, he should start by meeting and reconciling with Ganduje,” Aruwa stated.
