The committee, established to resolve disputes among aspirants and party leaders, has begun holding consultations across federal and state constituencies in Kano State.
The panel is chaired by former APC National Treasurer, Hon. Bala Muhammad Gwagwarwa, with Prof. Nura Yaro Dawakin Tofa serving as secretary. Other members include Hon. Mutari Ishaq Yakasai and former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zahara’u.
The committee was set up to promote unity within the party and prevent internal disagreements from weakening the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
As part of its mandate, it invited stakeholders and aspirants from the Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency, an area currently drawing attention due to political rivalry between sitting lawmaker Alhassan Ado Doguwa and aspirant Salisu Yusha’u.
Doguwa attended the reconciliation meeting held at the Kano State Government House and participated in the discussions.
However, the Chairperson of Tudun-Wada Local Government and Kano State ALGON Chairperson, Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Yusha’u, alongside her husband Salisu Yusha’u, did not attend the meeting. Their absence has raised concerns within party circles.
This development comes despite earlier directives from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf urging APC aspirants to return to their constituencies, engage stakeholders, and work towards consensus candidacy.
Confirming the situation, the committee secretary, Prof. Nura Yaro D-Tofa, and member Hon. Mutari Ishaq Yakasai stated that both Hajiya Sa’adatu and her husband were absent from the engagement.
They added that the reconciliation exercise is still ongoing and has so far covered over seven federal constituencies and 13 state assembly constituencies across Kano State, with progress described as generally positive.
Doguwa receives backing
Stakeholders from the Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency had earlier endorsed Doguwa for the 2027 election under the APC platform. This endorsement was reportedly acknowledged by Governor Yusuf as part of efforts to reduce tensions and encourage consensus-building within the party.
However, the development has further heightened political interest in the constituency due to the rivalry between Doguwa and Salisu Yusha’u.
Despite the setbacks, the reconciliation committee reaffirmed its commitment to fostering unity, cooperation, and stability within the APC in Kano State as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
