Superintendent Musbahu Lawan Knass, the spokesperson for the Command, asserted in a statement that there are no juvenile offenders housed in any of its Custodial Centers. The inmate mentioned in the misleading report has been confirmed to be 19 years and 2 months old.

“To dispel any doubts, the Command explicitly states that none of its Custodial Centers admits juvenile offenders, as these facilities are exclusively designated for inmates aged 18 years and above. The individual in question was remanded in the Custodial Center for an armed robbery offense by the Chief Magistrate Court (CMC) Gyade-Gyade Kano on January 26, 2023, at the age of 18 years and 6 months.”

The Command emphasized its commitment to the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders into society, clarifying that minors are typically referred to the Bostal Training Institute or Remand Home in Goron Dutse, Kano.

The spokesperson underscored that the reported incident appears to be a tactic aimed at evading and disrupting the course of justice.

Calling on the media to verify information before publication, the Command urged journalists to contact the Public Relations Officer for confirmation of reports to prevent the dissemination of misleading information, especially on matters pertaining to national security.

The Command also appealed to the general public for support in its efforts to protect the community and enhance overall societal safety.
