Kano Court Sentences Man For Beating Pregnant Wife, Orders Him To Buy Her Medication
A five-month pregnant woman has appealed to a Sharia Court in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State to show compassion to her husband, Ladanai Salisu, after he admitted physically assaulting her.
The case was heard before Malam Mubashshir Abdulsalam, with the prosecuting police officer, Corporal Saifullahi Nasidi, presenting the charge against the defendant.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Salisu pleaded guilty to the allegation, while his wife confirmed that the incident occurred but appealed to the court to temper justice with mercy.
The woman told the court that despite what happened, she still had sympathy for her husband, noting that they had three children together.
She reportedly urged the court to consider their family circumstances and show her husband leniency.
“I still have sympathy for my husband, and we have three children together,” she pleaded.
In its ruling, the court directed Salisu to purchase medication for his pregnant wife as part of the measures imposed following his admission.
The court also sentenced him to one month in prison, with an option of paying a ₦10,000 fine.
Additionally, the judge warned the defendant against repeating the offence and cautioned him about the consequences of further acts of violence against his wife.
