Kano Governor Yusuf Sparks Political Sh*ckwave As He Submits APC Second-Term Nomination Form

The announcement was contained in a Facebook post on Friday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa.

According to the statement, Governor Yusuf presented his nomination form on Thursday, accompanied by several prominent political figures from Kano State.

Those present included former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau; Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; Senator Kawu Sumaila; members of the House of Representatives; and other notable stakeholders.

Dawakin-Tofa noted that the governor spoke to journalists at Treasure Suites shortly after completing the submission process.

Yusuf described his bid for a second term as a renewed mandate to serve and a continued commitment to the development of Kano State.

The statement read in part: “Briefing journalists at Treasure Suites shortly after the submission of his nomination form, Governor Yusuf described the declaration for a second term as a fresh call to service and a renewed commitment to the people of Kano State.

“He said his administration would intensify urban renewal initiatives, with increased focus on road construction, drainage systems, and the modernisation of markets.

“Governor Yusuf also stressed that rural development would remain a priority, with plans to expand feeder roads, improve water supply, strengthen healthcare facilities, and upgrade schools in rural communities.”

He further pledged to boost agricultural support programmes and youth empowerment initiatives across the state, adding that job creation and youth development would remain central to his agenda if re-elected.

The governor also reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening education and healthcare delivery, while promoting unity, peace, and inclusive governance.

He said his administration would continue engaging stakeholders across political and social divides to advance the state’s progress.

Yusuf also restated his alignment with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying it would help attract more federal projects, investments, and development opportunities to Kano State.

He thanked the people of Kano for their continued support and confidence in his leadership, assuring them of transparent and people-focused governance.

It will be recalled that Yusuf defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC on January 26, 2026, following his resignation from the NNPP amid internal party disagreements.

His defection was accompanied by several lawmakers, local government officials, and political stakeholders who also joined the APC.

Following his entry into the party, Kano APC stakeholders reportedly endorsed him as their consensus governorship candidate and presented him with expression of interest and nomination forms ahead of the primaries.
