Earlier, the Federal High Court in Kano, presided over by Justice Simon Amobeda, issued a ruling that prohibited KANSIEC from conducting the elections. The court also removed KANSIEC Chairman Sani Malumfashi and other commission members, citing concerns about their alleged political affiliations and restricted police participation in the elections.
However, a contradictory ruling from the Kano State High Court on Friday overturned the previous order, allowing KANSIEC to move forward with the elections.
At a press conference on Friday, Malumfashi expressed confidence in the commission’s readiness, stating that all preparations have been finalized and that there would be no delays despite the legal challenges.
“We are fully prepared, and there is no going back. The court with jurisdiction over local government matters has ruled that we should proceed with the election. The police have also been instructed to ensure security during the process,” he said.
Malumfashi also criticized the political party contesting the elections, pointing out that they are not participating in the process. “The party challenging the local government election is not even taking part. They have refused to recognize the commission and have not engaged in any aspect of the election process,” he noted.
He mentioned that six political parties will participate in the upcoming election, including the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Action Alliance (AA), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), African Action Congress (AAC), and Action Congress (AC).
