Reports indicate that some guardians responsible for managing these funds have engaged in fraudulent practices, shortchanging the orphans. During a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, Commissioner for Religious Affairs Alhaji Muhammad Sani-Aliyu stated that Governor Nasir Idris has ordered a full recovery of the misappropriated funds and their return to the rightful beneficiaries.
āThe governor has a deep compassion for orphans and is committed to this task,ā Sani-Aliyu said, urging the committee to conduct a thorough investigation. He noted that while the banks were contacted, they revealed that the fraudulent actions were executed through Point of Sale terminals, rather than conventional banking methods.
Sani-Aliyu also warned that any bank found complicit in the withdrawal of the orphansā funds would face formal complaints to their headquarters. He emphasized the administrationās determination to prevent guardians from exploiting orphans.
The Recovery Committee will be led by Sani-Aliyu, along with two other commissioners, two special advisers, and two permanent secretaries.
