Keyamo Implements New Rule: Foreign Airlines Required To Use Local Catering ServicesThe Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has mandated that foreign airlines use local caterers for on-board meals on all outbound flights from Nigeria. This directive was communicated in a letter from H.T. According to Naija News, this policy will take effect on January 1, 2025. The letter stated, “I am directed by the Honourable Minister of Aviation to inform you that all outbound flights from Nigeria, particularly foreign airlines, must use local caterers for on-board meals.”
The directive also emphasized the importance of communicating this decision to airline operators to ensure strict compliance. “You are hereby directed to relay this decision to all foreign airlines for strict adherence starting January 1, 2025,” it added.
In related news, the federal government has granted a one-month extension for private aircraft owners in Nigeria to complete their verification process. This verification is part of an effort to recover import duties on illegally imported private jets.
The new deadline is now set from October 14 to November 14, 2024, as confirmed by Nigeria Customs Service spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada. Previously, the government had planned to ground over 60 private jets owned by notable individuals due to unpaid import duties amounting to billions of naira, with enforcement initially scheduled to begin on October 14, 2024. However, Maiwada announced the extension to allow owners and operators more time to comply with the necessary regulations.
