The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, undertook an inspection of the newly installed facilities at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano in preparation for the inaugural flight of intending pilgrims.

According to a statement by Mr. Tunde Moshood, the Special Assistant on Media and Communications to Keyamo, prior to the inspection, Keyamo, during his visit to Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State, emphasized the need for a dedicated power line at MAKIA to combat frequent power outages.

Moshood further stated that the minister appealed for the state’s assistance in procuring two additional generating plants to supplement the airport’s electricity supply, ensuring seamless operations for pilgrims.

The statement outlined, “Preceding the facility inspection, the Minister paid a courtesy visit to the Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Aminu Gwarzo. During the meeting, the aviation minister expressed his admiration for Kano.”

“In his address to the state government, the Minister highlighted three key requests aimed at improving the efficiency and functionality of MAKIA. Firstly, he urged the state government to expedite the installation of a dedicated power line at the airport to mitigate persistent power outages, especially affecting the air-conditioning system.”

“Secondly, he sought the state’s cooperation in procuring two additional generating plants to supplement the airport’s electricity supply, ensuring uninterrupted operations for pilgrims and travelers.”

“Lastly, the Minister raised concerns about properties owned by Skypower that are embroiled in dispute, seeking the state government’s intervention for an amicable resolution.”
