Kidnappers Of Edo PDP Leader Demand Half A Billion Naira Ransom

Reportedly, nine days following the abduction of Tony Aziegbemi, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, his captors have made contact with his family, requesting a ransom of N500 million.

Aziegbemi was taken by six armed individuals on Friday, March 15, 2024, at approximately 11 pm, shortly after concluding a meeting with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, at Government House. The abduction occurred at the entrance of his residence, leaving his driver unharmed.

According to a source within the family, who chose to remain anonymous, the abductors initiated communication with the family in the early hours of the previous Friday, stipulating their demand for the aforementioned ransom during the exchange.

When approached for comment, Chidi Nwabuzor, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, stated, “I am not aware of any ransom demand. I can only confirm what I am aware of.”

Preceding the reported ransom request, a family member known as Sam Ogbeiye had publicly appealed to the kidnappers to spare Aziegbemi’s life and urged them to establish contact with the family. Ogbeiye also implored security agencies to intensify their efforts in securing Aziegbemi’s safe release.

Edo State Police Commissioner, Funsho Adegboye, disclosed to journalists during an event at the state command that the police tactical team, alongside vigilante groups and hunters, are actively scouring the bush and creeks in a concerted effort to rescue the victim unharmed.
