Amidst the looming governorship election in Ondo State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) finds itself embroiled in a political tempest, with rival factions at odds over accusations surrounding the vandalization of campaign billboards across the state.
Wale Akinterinwa, a prominent contender in the upcoming election, has pointed fingers at supporters of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, alleging their involvement in the destruction of his campaign billboards scattered throughout the state.
Responding swiftly to these allegations, the Lucky Ayedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers (LACO-FS) rebuffed the claims, denouncing them as absurd and lacking substance.
According to statements issued by the Wale Akinterinwa Campaign Organisation (WACO), the destruction of these billboards appears to be a calculated effort orchestrated by Aiyedatiwa’s supporters, creating an environment of hostility, aggression, and sabotage aimed at rival factions within the party.
In a declaration by Segun Ajiboye, the spokesperson for WACO, it was asserted that the governor’s loyalists went to extreme lengths, even resorting to intimidating the advertising agency responsible for the billboards. Allegedly, threats were made to prevent the replacement of the vandalized billboards, with the added warning of license revocation if any action was taken to restore them. Such tactics, according to WACO, reflect the desperation prevailing within Governor Aiyedatiwa’s camp.
The statement also drew attention to the unprecedented nature of the situation, comparing it unfavorably to past political upheavals, suggesting that the scenes unfolding in Ondo State under Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership surpass even the tumultuous periods witnessed in the region’s political history.
