In a meeting with local leaders of hunters, the two expressed genuine remorse and declared their firm decision to break ties with their criminal past.

Gayya shared the circumstances that led him into the world of kidnapping, revealing that fear for his life arose when he discovered he was a suspect. Seeking refuge with a friend already associated with a kidnapping gang operating around the Jalingo, Kona, and Lankabiri mountains, he described the atrocities he witnessed, particularly the mistreatment of victims, as the catalyst for his repentance.

Similarly, Amadu confessed to being part of a kidnapping gang in the Mayo-Renewo area of Ardo-Kola council. Despite his involvement in multiple abduction incidents, he acknowledged the severity of his actions and made the courageous decision to turn his life around.

Babangida Kwamando, the leader of the local hunters’ association, extended a warm welcome to the repentant duo, underscoring the association’s commitment to rehabilitation.

He emphasized that individuals seeking redemption go through a solemn oath on the Holy Qur’an, pledging to abstain from illegal activities before being accepted into the hunters’ association.

Kwamando highlighted the significance of Gayya and Amadu’s choice to renounce their criminal past and join the fight against banditry and kidnapping. He expressed optimism that their decision would inspire hope in communities grappling with insecurity in the State.

The story of these repentant individuals stands as a positive example of rehabilitation efforts, showcasing a path for former criminals to reintegrate into society.

In a related development, the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has collaborated with former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, to address the issue of fake news, particularly in relation to an alleged N40 million theft in a bedroom. This collaborative effort aims to combat misinformation and contribute to the promotion of accurate information within the state.
