Bello has been elusive since the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attempted to arrest him during a raid at his Abuja residence a few months ago. Attempts by EFCC operatives to apprehend Bello were thwarted by Governor Usman Ododo.

The EFCC is prosecuting Bello for the alleged misappropriation of over N80 billion during his eight-year tenure as governor.
