Kogi Government Explains Appointment Of 717 Ward Special Assistants

During a press briefing in Lokoja, Fanwo highlighted that Governor Ododo’s goal is to strengthen grassroots involvement in governance by appointing individuals who are deeply connected with their local communities.

“The Governor is committed to ensuring that governance remains connected to the grassroots. He wants to bridge the gap between government and local aspirations,” Fanwo said. He noted that previous administrations often had Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants who were disconnected from grassroots realities, living mostly in the state capital.

Fanwo explained, “In past administrations, many appointed officials resided in the state capital, leading to a disconnect with the grassroots. This new appointment strategy aims to rectify that by involving individuals who are active within their own Wards.”

Regarding concerns about the potential increase in governance costs, Fanwo reassured that the financial impact remains minimal. He clarified that the combined salaries of three Ward Special Assistants (WSAs) are equivalent to that of a single Senior Special Assistant (SSA). “The Governor has managed to keep the cost of governance low by distributing one SSA’s salary among three WSAs,” he said.

Fanwo also encouraged Kogi State residents to leverage this opportunity to engage with and oversee government activities effectively. He noted that the Ododo Administration is building on previous grassroots empowerment initiatives and is committed to improving rural communities through ongoing and future projects.

“The Ododo Administration continues to advance grassroots empowerment by expanding projects in rural areas and ensuring that more communities benefit,” Fanwo concluded.
