Jones stated that the payment is part of the Free Examination Fee for Pupils in Public Schools Law enacted in 2023, which mandates the government to cover all internal and external exam fees for students in public schools.
He commended Governor Ododo for continuing the legacy of his predecessor, Yahaya Bello. “For the 2024/2025 WASSCE, we sought approval from the governor to cover the fees for these students,” he noted.
With this initiative, the state government has increased the number of students benefiting from this support, up from 15,033 last year, reflecting a growing trend of parents enrolling their children in public schools. The commissioner emphasized that this policy aims to ease the financial burden on families and tackle the issue of out-of-school children, ensuring a 100% completion rate at the secondary level.
Jones also indicated that the government would cover JAMB and NABTEB fees for public school students, as well as costs associated with the First School Leaving Certificate and Basic Examination School Certificate. He warned school principals against any misconduct, stressing that severe sanctions would follow any violations.
