Kogi Lawmakers Fume Over Prolonged Darkness In Ankpa

The Kogi State House of Assembly has called on the state government to take immediate steps to restore electricity to Ankpa Local Government Area, which has been plunged into total darkness for over a year.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The appeal came during Friday’s plenary session in Lokoja, following a motion raised by Hon. Lawal Akus (Ankpa I). He lamented the devastating impact of the prolonged outage, which he said has crippled local businesses, disrupted healthcare services, and worsened insecurity in the area—one of the most populous in Kogi East.

“Ankpa has remained without power for more than a year, resulting in immense hardship and economic setbacks,” Akus stated. He explained that the area had previously been connected to a 33kV line from Otukpo, which collapsed due to overloading. Although a temporary link through Ajaokuta was established, the supply later failed again.

Akus urged the Ministry of Rural Development to collaborate with the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to replace damaged power infrastructure and restore electricity to the area.

He also appealed to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to engage the Niger Delta Power Holding Company to fast-track the completion of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) currently underway in Ankpa.

The motion received unanimous support from fellow lawmakers. Speaker Umar Aliyu directed the Clerk of the House to formally communicate the resolution to the state executive for prompt implementation.
