The Plateau Police Command confirmed on Tuesday that 96 individuals lost their lives, and 221 houses were set ablaze during the Christmas Eve attacks orchestrated by gunmen. However, the state Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, reported that the death toll from the coordinated attacks had risen to over 115.
Concerned by the senseless and indiscriminate killings, Natasha urged the federal government and security forces to take decisive action to prevent a recurrence of such acts.
“I know this is a difficult moment to celebrate Christmas, knowing that people are being killed for no just cause. I hereby call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of perpetrators of the dastardly acts in Plateau. The federal government must rise to the occasion and put measures in place to mitigate a recurrence of such a dastardly act,” Natasha stated.
While expressing condolences to the victims, the government, and the people of Plateau for the irreparable loss of lives and destruction of properties, the lawmaker called for swift and comprehensive measures to address the situation and prevent future tragedies.
