Kogi State Resident Jailed For Attempting To Produce Fake US $2 Million Using DyeKehinde Amaka, also known as Yomade Ademisoye Ojomo, has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, for being in possession of counterfeit US $2,028,400.00. Amaka was found guilty of violating the Counterfeit Currency (Special Provision) Act, 2004, specifically Sections 2 and 5.1(b), as charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). According to the prosecution, the offense occurred on May 15, 2024, in Lokoja, where Amaka was caught with a substantial quantity of counterfeit US dollars in $100 denominations, knowing them to be fake.

The charges included:

“That you, Kehinde Amaka a.k.a. Yomade Ademisoye Ojomo, on May 15, 2024, in Lokoja, had in your possession the sum of $2,028,400.00 worth of counterfeit US $100 bills, knowing them to be counterfeit, thereby committing an offense contrary to Section 5(1)(b) of the Counterfeit Currency (Special Provision) Act, 2004.”

Additionally, Amaka was charged with possessing chemicals and equipment used to manufacture the counterfeit notes. The charges read:

“That you, Kehinde Amaka a.k.a. Yomade Ademisoye Ojomo, on May 15, 2024, in Lokoja, unlawfully possessed chemical dye materials and instruments for producing counterfeit US $100 bills, thereby committing an offense under Section 2 of the Counterfeit Currency (Special Provision) Act, 2004.”

The case came to the attention of the EFCC through a report from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on May 16, 2024. The EFCC’s team was assigned to investigate the matter, and the counterfeit bills were found in Amaka’s possession. The First Prosecution Witness, Alonge Opeyemi Joseph, testified that the counterfeit currency was counted in the defendant’s presence, and Amaka voluntarily made a statement under caution. The evidence collected during the investigation was presented in court, leading to Amaka’s conviction.DSS
