In his address, Governor Ododo urged the new leaders to sustain grassroots development by initiating projects and programs that improve residents’ quality of life. He emphasized the importance of ensuring security for lives and property, encouraging the chairmen to align their efforts with the administration’s key initiatives in health, agriculture, social welfare, and empowerment.
“It is essential to be transparent and accountable in managing local government affairs,” Ododo stated. He reminded the leaders that their election is an opportunity to strengthen local government autonomy and prioritize issues that positively affect their constituents.
Describing local government as the closest tier of governance to the people, Governor Ododo encouraged the chairmen to actively involve the community and include all stakeholders in decision-making processes. He reiterated that local governance should be both visible and impactful, in line with his administration’s goal of bringing governance closer to the populace.
In response, Tosin Olokun, chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area, spoke on behalf of the newly sworn-in chairmen. He assured the governor of their commitment to support the state government’s efforts through transformative projects and programs at the grassroots level. Olokun also pledged to promote unity among residents, regardless of political affiliations, in line with Governor Ododo’s vision for state development and cohesion.
