Speaking at the convocation ceremony of Skyline University in Kano on Sunday, Kwankwaso claimed that Lagos was interfering in Kano’s internal affairs, including the selection of its emir. He stated, “Today, it is evident that there are deliberate efforts from the Lagos axis to dominate this part of the country. Lagos won’t even allow us to choose our Emir; instead, they are trying to impose their own Emir on Kano.”

He further criticized Lagos for what he sees as a belief that it has control over Nigeria, stating, “Lagos today feels as though it is the only part of Nigeria that matters, interfering in the affairs of other states. We will not accept such actions in Kano.”

Kwankwaso’s remarks highlight concerns about regional imbalances in governance and the influence of traditional institutions under the current administration. Critics argue that President Tinubu’s government has favored Lagos, with billions of naira in projects awarded to the state, potentially sidelining the development needs of other regions.
