Kwankwaso Voices Concern After Viewing Disturbing Maiduguri Flood Photos

Rabiu Kwankwaso, former presidential candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has described the recent flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital, as deeply alarming. The ex-Governor of Kano State has called on authorities to act swiftly to provide necessary aid to those affected by the severe flooding.

In a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday, Kwankwaso shared his shock at the distressing images from Maiduguri, where extensive areas of the city are submerged. He urged both governmental and non-governmental bodies to offer urgent assistance to protect the affected communities.

Kwankwaso’s statement read, “I have seen horrifying images from Maiduguri, where large portions of the city are under water. I appeal to authorities and all those in a position to help to provide the necessary support to safeguard the residents and their communities.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Borno State government and the people of Borno during this challenging time,” he added.

As previously reported, significant flooding has hit various parts of Maiduguri, attributed to the overflow of Alau Dam. Many residents have been displaced, and several areas of the city have been severely impacted.

Social media has been flooded with videos showing residents evacuating their homes and seeking temporary shelter. In response to the worsening situation, the Borno State government has ordered the closure of schools, with concerns that the flooding may worsen in the coming days.

The flooding, which began a week ago, reached its peak in the early hours of Tuesday.
