The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially unveiled retired civil servant Bolakale Kawu as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election, alongside Pastor Cornelius Fawenu, Presiding Pastor of Oasis of Wisdom Bible Church, Ilorin, as his running mate.
The announcement was made on Friday during a ceremony at the party’s state secretariat in Ilorin, attended by party leaders, stakeholders, members, and supporters from across the state.
Addressing the gathering, the Kwara PDP Chairman, Isa Adamu, described the unveiling as a significant milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 governorship race.
According to Adamu, Kawu selected Fawenu as his deputy after extensive consultations with party leaders and stakeholders across the state. He explained that the cleric emerged after a thorough selection process involving four qualified aspirants.
“Pastor Fawenu’s emergence reflects the competence, integrity, and spirit of selfless service that define our party,” Adamu said.
The party chairman also praised Fawenu for stepping down from the contest for the Kwara South Senatorial ticket in the interest of party unity, describing the decision as a demonstration of loyalty, discipline, and commitment to the PDP’s collective goals.
He added that the party had begun the constitutional process of notifying its national leadership about the vacancy created by Fawenu’s withdrawal from the senatorial race.
PDP Vows Better Governance
Adamu assured party members that the PDP is committed to delivering purposeful leadership if elected in 2027.
He said the party’s agenda would focus on improving security, driving economic growth, enhancing education, empowering youths and women, boosting agriculture, and promoting transparent governance.
He also urged members to remain united and work collectively toward securing victory in the next general election.
In his acceptance speech, Fawenu expressed gratitude to God and the PDP leadership for entrusting him with the position. He also appreciated the party’s leader, Bukola Saraki, governorship candidate Bolakale Kawu, the state chairman, the State Working Committee, the Council of Elders, and party members across Kwara State for their support and confidence.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kwara State, Bishop STG Adewole, represented by Rev. Yemi Adepoju, called on politicians and residents to uphold peace and unity as the state prepares for the 2027 elections.
He urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to focus on issue-based campaigns and avoid actions capable of disrupting the peace and stability of Kwara State.
“Political actors and their supporters should conduct their campaigns peacefully and always place the interest of Kwara State above personal or partisan considerations,” he said.
