Unbelievable! Yahoo Boys Empty Judge’s ₦7.2 Million Bank Account In One Night — EFCC Boss
EFCC Chairman Reveals How Suspected Internet Fraudsters Stole Judge’s ₦7.2 Million Savings Overnight....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has disclosed how suspected internet fraudsters allegedly wiped out more than ₦7.2 million from the bank account of a serving judge in a single night.
According to Olukoyede, the stolen money represented six years of savings the judge had set aside to fund her child’s education.
He made the revelation on Friday while speaking at the public presentation of two books written by retired High Court judge, Justice Alaba Omolaye-Ajileye.
Recounting the incident, the EFCC chairman said the judge contacted him around 1:00 a.m. after being awakened by a series of debit alerts from her bank.
“She had just been scammed of the money she had been putting together for six years to send her child to school. The debit alerts woke her up, and before she knew it, about ₦7.2 million had disappeared from her account,” Olukoyede said.
He further revealed that the incident occurred in a state where the EFCC had previously been restrained by a court order from investigating certain financial crimes.
According to him, he reminded the judge of the legal restriction, saying, “My Lord, I have an injunction preventing the EFCC from investigating financial crimes in that state.” The judge reportedly replied, “No, no, no. This is an exception. You must do something immediately.”
Olukoyede said the EFCC swiftly launched an investigation and successfully recovered the entire amount before the close of business on the same day.
“Before 6 p.m., we recovered every kobo for her. I believe that if any application seeking to stop the EFCC from carrying out its duties comes before her in the future, she will dismiss it because she has now experienced the impact of these crimes firsthand,” he stated.
He stressed that cybercrime has become a growing national threat that requires collective action from law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, and the public.
“Only when Nigerians unite to confront this challenge—through effective law enforcement, responsible citizenship, and judicial support—can we overcome it. Nigeria can defeat this menace, and we will succeed,” he said.
EFCC Adopts Artificial Intelligence in Investigations
Olukoyede also disclosed that the commission has begun deploying artificial intelligence (AI) tools to aid criminal investigations. However, he noted that existing laws need to evolve to address the admissibility of AI-generated evidence in court.
“We have already started using AI tools in crime investigations. The challenge now is how to generate evidence through AI and make it legally admissible in court,” he said.
He called on lawmakers and legal scholars to develop legislation that would provide a legal framework for the use of AI in criminal investigations and prosecutions.
Also speaking at the event, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), urged the EFCC and other anti-corruption agencies to intensify efforts to recover public funds allegedly stolen and hidden abroad.
