Emphasizing the need to address the menace of fake news promptly, Olukoju underscored the potential devastating impact on societal values and progress. The state government has already taken steps to tackle this issue, including the apprehension of suspected carriers of fake news by law enforcement agents.

To further control the narrative, Olukoju instructed press secretaries to report on the activities of MDAs (Ministries, Departments, and Agencies) within one hour after an event and urged them to attach their phone contacts to press releases for public clarification. She highlighted the positive feedback received from this initiative.

Expanding on the new measure, the commissioner mentioned the ongoing effort to compile the official social media handles of all MDAs. Once compiled, this information will be shared with the public, with a clear directive that any news not reported through these official channels should be treated as fake. This approach aims to empower the state government to manage and control the narratives surrounding its activities.

Olukoju assured press secretaries of support from the ministry and encouraged them to utilize the open-door policy to discuss challenges, strengths, weaknesses, and potential solutions. Additionally, she announced that the ministry is in the process of organizing in-house training sessions to enhance the efficiency of press secretaries in their service delivery.

Abdulganiyu Atere, the Director of Information Services, expressed appreciation for the commissioner’s efforts in sharing innovative ideas with press secretaries, acknowledging their role in enhancing productivity. Sangodare Ayinla, the Communication Officer at Kwara FADAMA, commended the commissioner for introducing various innovative ideas aimed at improving the work environment for press secretaries.
