Labour Party Faces New Crisis: Northern Caucus Demands Chairmanship Position....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Northern Caucus of the Labour Party (LP) is advocating for the national chairmanship position, as conveyed by the Forum of Northern LP Chairmen and Secretaries, according to Naija News. Julius Abure, the current National Chairman from Edo State in the Southsouth region, finds himself at the center of this developing situation.

During a press briefing in Bauchi State, forum convener Hussaini Saraki emphasized the imperative of party unity without fragmentation. However, the National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, dismissed the contention for the national chairman role, asserting that the party has moved forward from such disputes.

Saraki proposed that the party’s leadership should be zoned to the North to uphold inclusivity and fairness. Abure’s reelection as the LP’s national chairman during the contentious national convention in Nnewi, Anambra State, on March 27, faced criticism, with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) denouncing the convention’s legality.

In response, the umbrella labour union established a transition committee to oversee the party’s operations nationwide until a proper national convention could be convened. Saraki affirmed the unity of Northern Nigeria for a singular Labour Party, disregarding factions such as the Apapa or Abure factions, which he claims no longer exist.

He insisted on Northern representation in the party’s leadership, advocating for the chairman’s position to be zoned to the North for inclusivity. With the party’s presidential candidate hailing from the South, Saraki emphasized the need for balance by having the chairman come from the North.
