Labour Party Lambastes Wike Over Recent Decisions....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Labour Party (LP) has criticized the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, reminding him that he is a presidential appointee under President Bola Tinubu and could be dismissed without ceremony.

The LP also called on President Tinubu to address the conduct of Minister Wike, particularly following his recent remarks threatening to obstruct the re-election of FCT’s sole senator, Ireti Kingibe, in 2027.

According to Naija News, Wike challenged Kingibe to contest the FCT seat again in 2027 if she believes she remains popular. Confident in his stance, Wike asserted that she would face defeat, indicating that past outcomes would not be repeated.

In response, the LP emphasized that Wike, as a minister appointed by the president, should refrain from meddling in the electoral processes that duly elected Kingibe.

In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, LP’s FCT Chairman, Peter Dugwu, stated, “We urge President Tinubu to rein in Wike. He serves at the president’s pleasure. Unlike Wike, Ireti Kingibe was elected through a legitimate democratic process.”

Dugwu criticized Wike’s threats, asserting, “We do not know under whose authority he speaks. The FCT is not an extension of Rivers State. The Labour Party will determine Ireti’s re-election, not Wike. He lacks the mandate to dictate her political future.”

He further added, “Wike should remember that his tenure in the FCT is based on presidential appointment and could be terminated at any time.”

Similarly, the national chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ajuji Ahmed, condemned Wike’s remarks towards Senator Kingibe, describing them as verbal aggression.

Ahmed argued that Wike lacks the authority to influence the electoral prospects of other politicians, stating, “Wike has no authority to prevent someone’s re-election. He does not represent the electorate of the FCT or the Labour Party.”

“There is no justification for Wike’s statements. They are inappropriate and unacceptable,” Ahmed concluded.
