Speaking to journalists at his Bodija residence in Ibadan on Sunday, shortly after observing the Eid-el-Fitr prayers, Ladoja, who also holds the title of Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, maintained that President Bola Tinubu had valid reasons for the decision, despite widespread criticism.

Ladoja clarified that the move was not an attack on democratic values but rather a strategic measure to address political instability in the state.

“The state of emergency in Rivers State is not a threat to democracy at all. The President has his reasons for making the decision. It is a cautionary message to other governors to remain vigilant. Currently, there is relative peace in Rivers State,” Ladoja stated.

Furthermore, Ladoja proposed that the crisis in Rivers State should serve as an opportunity for reconciliation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

He urged both leaders to utilize the six-month emergency period to resolve their differences for the sake of the state’s development.

“It is time for Wike and Fubara to come together and reflect. They should ask themselves, ‘What are we really fighting for?’ This period of emergency should be used as an opportunity to settle their disputes,” Ladoja advised.

Expressing optimism for the future, Ladoja concluded, “I believe that within the next six months, stability will return to Rivers State.”
