President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe as the new Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). Dr. Oloriegbe, a former Senator for the Kwara Central District in the 9th National Assembly, holds a Master’s in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford, UK, and HEC, Paris. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State. He is affiliated with several professional organizations, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), and the International Aids Society (IAS), among others.
Before this appointment, Dr. Oloriegbe served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health from 2019 to 2023 and as Chairman of the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health.
In related news, President Tinubu recently revealed a conversation in which he threatened to sack Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike over a request concerning the Treasury Single Account (TSA). Tinubu shared that Wike had asked for an exemption from the TSA to improve his performance. However, the President warned that if this request favored the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the All Progressives Congress (APC) and jeopardized his election prospects, Wike would face dismissal.
