Lagos APC Unveils Jaw-Dropping Nomination Fees For LG Polls — Sparks Reactions
As part of preparations for the upcoming July 12 local government elections in Lagos State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially released the nomination and administrative fee structure for interested candidates.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The details, contained in the party’s election guidelines jointly signed by APC Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi and Secretary Dr. Adeola Jokomba, were made public on Tuesday.
According to the guidelines, individuals contesting for the position of Chairman are required to pay a ₦5 million nomination fee in addition to a ₦500,000 administrative charge. Female aspirants for the same position will pay a reduced nomination fee of ₦2.5 million, while the administrative charge remains at ₦500,000.
To encourage youth participation, the APC is offering a 50% discount on the nomination fee for chairmanship aspirants under 40 years of age; however, they will still be required to pay the full administrative fee of ₦500,000.
In a bid to promote inclusivity, the party announced a complete waiver of nomination fees for Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs), who will only be required to pay a discounted administrative fee of ₦250,000.
For councillorship positions, male aspirants are to pay ₦1 million for the nomination form and ₦100,000 as an administrative fee. Female aspirants will pay ₦250,000 for the nomination form, while their administrative fee remains at ₦100,000.
Youths vying for councillorship seats will receive a 50% discount on the nomination fee, but no reduction on the administrative fee. PLWDs applying for councillorship positions will get the nomination form free of charge and are expected to pay only ₦50,000 as an administrative fee.
The party further clarified that there will be no separate fee for Vice Chairmanship, as the chairmanship fees cover it. All payments are to be made via bank draft in favor of the All Progressives Congress, Lagos State.
Additionally, chairmanship aspirants must submit a nomination form endorsed by five registered APC members who are also registered voters within their respective wards and LGAs or LCDAs.
