the decision comes in the wake of Obasa’s impeachment over allegations of abuse of office and gross misconduct.
The lawmakers elected Mojisola Meranda, representative of Apapa I, as the new Speaker. During her oath-taking, she affirmed her commitment to performing her duties faithfully and in accordance with the Nigerian Constitution.
Following the suspension, Onafeko, who was appointed by Obasa, faced criticism, particularly for implementing a ban on journalists covering Assembly activities.
Meanwhile, security forces, including the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Lagos Task Force, and the Police, have fortified the premises of the Lagos State Assembly. Miscreants attempting to breach the complex were intercepted and arrested, with charms and amulets recovered from those believed to be Obasa supporters from Agege
