Lagos Authorities Urge Protesters To End Demonstrations

Omotosho urged the protesting youths to end their demonstrations, assuring them that their concerns had been heard. He stated, “We have listened to the protesters’ concerns, and Governor Sanwo-Olu has acknowledged them. It is now time to return home and end the protest.”

In a related development, Sanwo-Olu condemned a post made by @Lagospedia on X (formerly Twitter) that called for the expulsion of the Igbo community from Lagos and the South-West. The post, dated July 27, 2024, had urged Lagosians to prepare for a #IgboMustGo protest scheduled from August 20 to 30, 2024, sparking controversy online.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s media aide, Gboyega Akosile, stated that the governor and Lagos State Government disassociate themselves from the provocative and dangerous rhetoric. The governor emphasized that Lagos is a home for all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity.

Sanwo-Olu criticized the post as an attempt to incite division between Yoruba and other ethnic groups in Lagos. He urged Lagosians to reject such divisive messages and called on security agencies to investigate and hold accountable those responsible. The governor also pledged to intensify efforts to maintain peace in the state.
